1. Timaya

Highly successful now, Dem Mama Records boss, Timaya, was once a plantain seller before hitting stardom.

Timaya constantly makes reference to his days as a plantain seller in songs like ‘Plantain Boy’. He began his musical career in 2005 and has released hit songs such as ‘Bum Bum’ and ‘Sanko’.

2. Patoranking

Recall that at the Headies last year, Patoranking revealed that he was once a bricklayer and a hawker. The singer who grew up in a slum called Ilaje in Ebute Metta, began his career in 2010 but got into limelight with songs like ‘Girlie O’ in 2014.

3. Mercy Johnson

She's known as a successful actress today, but little did you know that the sexy mum of three started out as a maid.

The actress in an interview with Tribune once revealed that sometimes when she cries on set, it's because she remembers how she started.

She revealed that her family once moved into an uncompleted building, where they lived with lizards and she took up work as a maid.

4. Peter and Paul Okoye

'Bank alert’ singers, Psquare have also had their own share of dust biting.

Peter once worked as a supermarket attendant and Paul did some electrical repair for pay.

Now, their story is different, the two have own houses abroad, go on boat cruises and enjoy the fine things of life!

5. Tonto Dikeh

Nollywood actress and new mum, Tonto Dikeh-Churchill is another success story.

The actress once revealed she could barely make ends meet and had to beg friends for assistance. In return, friends would ask her to clean their rooms or do their course work. Her major break came in 2005 when she won the 2nd position in The Next Movie Star reality show.
