From falling in love to messy breakups to engagements and surprise marriages, these couples were our most talked about for the year.

1. Toyin Aimakhu and Adeniyi Johnson

Toyin Aimakhu and Adeniyi Johnson were a big hit in the celebrity gist department this year. The duo announced they would be ending things after Aimakhu accused Adeniyi of infidelity.

According to her, Johnson was having a sexual relationship with his colleagues.

Social media trolls didn’t allow the two rest. The issue was over flogged and even Toyin Aimakhu didn’t let sleeping dogs lie...always sharing videos talking about his sexual escapades.

2. Lilian Esoro and Ubi Franklin

Then this year saw Ubi Franklin and Lilian Esoro in the news for the wrong reasons.

Esoro was said to have split from her husband, after the birth of their son, over alleged reports of infidelity and domestic abuse.

The duo who were crazy over each other, constantly showing their love on social media, suddenly stopped.

Although, Ubi Franklin still professes his love for Lilian but his actress wife wants to be left alone.

The actress was noticeably absent during the grand opening of Ubi's new business venture Tilt Terrace in Lekki, on October 30, 2016.

3. Tiwa Savage and Tee Billz

This year also saw celebrity couple Tiwa Savage and Tee Billz embroiled in one of the biggest scandals of the year.

Tee Billz lashed out at his wife on Instagram complaining about neglect, accused his wife of having sex with Dr. Sid, Don Jazzy and 2face Idibia, claimed his mother-in-law was a witch and spoke about his fractured relationship with his father.

It was later revealed that he tried committing suicide on the same day. Tiwa Savage in a tell-all interview exclusively released to Pulse on April 28, 2016 accused Tee Billz of neglect, drug use and infidelity.

4. Toyin Aimakhu and Seun Egbegbe

A month after her breakup with Adeniyi Johnson, Toyin wasn't even legally divorced before she started a whirlwind romance with Ebony Films and Records  boss, Seun Egbegbe.

Their breakup was even messier than her marital drama. Egbegbe reportedly seized her phones at a movie location and was accused of kidnapping her too.

The two later engaged in a war of words on social media and in several interviews.

5. Funke Akindele and JJC Skillz

Funke Akindele and JJC Skillz kept teasing us with photos of themselves together; tagging each other as besties.

The duo were rumoured to have been romantically involved until photos of their engagement and private wedding emerged. Fans of the “Jenifa” actress, were happy with their union and it was one of the best things to have happened in the industry this year.
