'When A Man Loves A Woman' singer dies at 73

April 16, 2015 marks the 49th anniversary of the release of the 1966 hit song, "When a Man Loves a Woman."

Percy Sledge dies at 73

Percy Sledge, the R&B legend famous for his 1966 hit song, 'When A Man Loves A Woman' has been confirmed dead.

The music icon passed away at his home in Baton Rouge after battling with cancer for years.

He was aged 73.

Percy's famous track became an international hit after climbing to #1 in 1966 in America and to #2 in 1987 in the UK.

In 1991, the Michael Bolton's cover of the song also hit #1 and became one of Hollywood's favorite tunes, appearing on the soundtrack of well over 20 movies.

Percy had a few other hits including 'Warm and Tender Love' in 1966 and 'Take Time to Know Her' in 1968 and 'Mt Special Prayer' in 1967.

He continued performing until 2013 and April 16, 2015 marks the 49th anniversary of the release of "When a Man Loves a Woman."
