"New goals, new perspective" by Peace Hyde

This is an exclusive Pulse blogpost by British-Ghanaian television presenter and actress, Peace Hyde.

Peace Hyde revealed as new West Africa Correspondent: Forbes Africa

We all have goals and objectives, which are constantly evolving. On the way to achieving those targets, you may find that we come across new challenges that make our new targets much harder to achieve.

It usually means that you are entering a new level and as such, you may have to refine your strategy. As they say, every new level has a new devil. The difficulty however is in knowing what the right plan is. This week I am having one of those challenges.

I have recently embarked on a new project that is much harder than anything I have done in the past. I soon realised that the old methods did not work with this new opportunity. They had become obsolete. The challenges were completely different and as a result required a new set of principles.

I believe the best way to learn is by understanding the experiences of successful individuals who have come before us. My mentor shared her experience in the early days as an entrepreneur. She had just started her new retail business and soon run into some cash flow problems.

She had already used her credit facility from the bank and could not keep up with repayments. The financial crisis progressed until she finally had to close shop and sell off her assets. She was extremely distraught.

But she learnt a valuable lesson from that failure. She was keeping a lot of stock, which were not being sold on time, and hence the goods perished. She decided to start a new business, this time in the logistics business helping people to manage stock more efficiently.

She figured if she failed, there must be other entrepreneurs who are going through the same challenges and need help streamlining their manufacturing processes. She is now the largest service provider in the logistics business with a multi-million dollar company.

When asked how she succeeded, she simply answered, “I did not let my failure define me, I changed my perspective about the type of business I wanted to do”.

As you make goals for 2016, it is important to be thoughtful, focused and determined to achieve what you really want out of life. Then make your goals your own, and you will be driven to succeed.

When faced with difficulties on your journey to greatness, it is important to remember that perspective is everything. You may occasionally be disappointed in your journey but how you choose to deal with that failure will determine your next opportunity.

If you don’t reach the high expectations you have for yourself, it is very likely that you did not adjust your perspective. A failure can mean the end of your dream or the beginning of a new opportunity.

The decision is entirely up to you because your perspective will ultimately determine your altitude. Remember; always be yourself because everyone else is taken.

Much Love,
