Genius who inspired 'A Beautiful Mind' movie dies with wife in car crash

According to the police report, the old couple were thrown from their vehicle, during the crash. Some reports said the in the media suggest that they were not wearing seat belts.

 

US mathematician John Nash, 86, the inspiration behind the the Oscar-winning film starring Russell Crowe has died in a car crash with his wife,.

Nash and Alicia, 82, were killed in New Jersey when their taxi crashed.

According to the police report, the old couple were thrown from their vehicle, during the crash. Some reports said the in the media suggest that they were not wearing seat belts.

The taxi driver, and a passenger in another car, were injured.

"Stunned... My heart goes out to John & Alicia & family. An amazing partnership. Beautiful minds, beautiful hearts" tweeted Russell Crowe.

Ron Howard who directed 'A Beautiful Mind' released in 2001 also sent out a tribute tweet to John Nash and his wife.

also tweeted his tribute to the "brilliant" John Nash and his "remarkable" wife.

John Nash is celebrated for his amazing work in game theory.

He won the Nobel Prize for Economics in 1994. His breakthrough work in mathematics and his battle with schizophrenia  were at the centre of A Beautiful Mind.

John Nash was born in Bluefield, West Virginia in 1928.

Nash first studied in Pittsburgh before moving to Princeton.

His recommendation letter contained to Princeton had only one  line- "this man is a genius."

He married Alicia Larde in 1957. A few years after he developed severe schizophrenia soon after. They divorced in 1962.In the 1980's his condition improved and in 2001 he remarried Alicia. Shortly before his death, John Nash received the Abel Prize.
