If Tiwa Savage & Tee Billz Break Up…

But this year, on a global scale, marriages have been hitting the rocks at an alarming rate, and if recent reports hold water, then we’re about to have a local casualty. If that happens, what becomes of Tiwa Savage and Tee Billz?

The rumours are becoming louder. And if the voices are to be believed, then one of Nigeria’s entertainment couple are on the brink of a separation. Tiwa Savage and Tee Billz are reported to be on a rocky path in their relationship, and it gets uglier.

2013 has been the year when marriages and relationships have been stretched to their limits. This is in contrast to the last 365 days, when getting married was a trend. 2face Idibia & Annie Macaulay, Yemi Sax and his beautiful bride, Bez Idakula and a governor’s daughter, Tee Billz and Tiwa Savage, Moses Inwang & Emem Udonquak, Peter Okoye and Lola, and a lot of others found a way to exchange rings, and bind them to ‘eternal’ commitment.

But this year, on a global scale, marriages have been hitting the rocks at an alarming rate, and we’re about to have a local casualty.

After discovering Tiwa Savage in the US and signing her under his 323 Entertainment, Tee Billz returned with the singer to Nigeria in 2010. Working under Cecil Hammond’s Flytime Entertainment, Tiwa went on to debut her single ‘Kele Kele love’ to rave reviews. In 2012, Tiwa signed a JV Deal with Don Jazzy’s newly formed Mavin Records. In 2013, the singer released her debut album ‘Once Upon a Time’ and dedicated large part of the album’s intro to Tee Billz.

Over time, success brought them bought closer, and love sprouted. The pair held a traditional marriage in November 2013 and a white wedding in Dubai in April 2014. Many critics were quick to point out that the union was one born out of mutual commercial benefits, not love and passion.

It makes business sense that Tee Billz, already with a wife and kids from an earlier marriage, moved to secure his investment and means of survival. And for Tiwa, her career will remain in the most trustworthy of hands.

But just a few months down the line, everything is about to get unravelled.

With unconfirmed reports revealing that leading Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage is no longer working with her husband Tunji ‘Teebiilz’ Balogun as her manager, gossip blogs have reported that the working relationship between Tiwa and Tee Billz who owns 323 Entertainment Company has deteriorated. Nothing has been confirmed and reasons are yet to be known but several instances indicate the rumour might be true.

But let’s go down the line of possibilities. If the breakup gets to happen, what would the reaction be? Story of the year! People are bound to pry and pick holes in the relationships, messy stories will rule the air, triangles will be drawn, and correlations with hitherto unconnected events will begin to surface. Simply put, it will be one festival of guilty joy. Who knows, we might get to see a secret love child make a grand entrance.

For the couple it will go down the wire, even to the economics. Who gets to get paid, who loses what money, who takes a chunk of the business. On the surface, Tiwa will be the big winner. She’s got the talent, she’s the star, and she’s got Don Jazzy. That’s a trifecta right there.

Tee Billz has a contract that legally binds his wife, business wise, and he’ll use it to absolute advantage. Tiwa will pay through her nose to buy out her existing contract, and it’ll be pretty expensive. Not that the money will ruin her anyway. Tee Billz still has an artiste on his 323 gig. His name is Traffic and he is an amazing singer, but with due respect, Traffic isn’t going to bring in the money immediately.

What this means is that Tee Billz will have a financial mountain to climb. Losing his wife, and business partner is just too huge a blow to bear. Tiwa will lose the love and career assistance that her husband provides, but she’ll be quick to move on. Mavin records will not suffer.

A Tiwa Savage-Tee Billz breakup will be bad for business and love…but they'll both survive.
