When love becomes a calling; the Annie and 2face Idibia story

“Fall in love.. that is fine, but just make sure you fall deep enough to stay there forever.”

Annie and 2face Idibia

“Fall in love.. that is fine, but just make sure you fall deep enough to stay there forever.” ― Ram Mohan

On February 14, 2012, after about 10 years of friendship and on and off dating, Innocent “2face” Idibia finally asked Annie Macaulay to be his wife.

She said yes of course, much to the amazement and dismay of many, and today she is his wife and the mother of two of his children.

People criticized Annie for accepting to marry 2face mostly because he had two other baby mamas and as such was not exactly a prize catch.

However, to fully understand why she had no choice but to marry him, one needs to watch her interview on Ndani’s “The Juice”.

During the interview, Annie had a smitten smile on her face even as she giggled and referred to her husband affectionately as “Innocent”, never as “2face”.

This was a woman who had obviously fallen in love with Innocent Idibia before the fame and fortune.

It was then I realized that she was one of us; those of us for whom love is no longer an emotion but a calling.

You see, I too know what it feels like to love a person unconditionally and unflinchingly, almost as if you have no choice in the matter.

I’ve been in love with the same man now for a decade and a half and every other person has been nothing but a mosquito in a tornado.

Every time we’ve tried to walk away from each other, we’ve been dragged back like magnet to metal and lint to wool.

I see his face when I listen to my favourite love songs and whenever I think of my kids, I see his face.

While Hurricane Irene was raging, we chatted for 17 hours straight and just knew that we could weather all the hurricanes of life together, side by side and hand in hand.

Has he hurt me? Yes. Do I care? Not really.

You see when love becomes a calling for you, you can’t hate that person even if your life depends on it, and you can’t stay away from them, you just can’t.

When love becomes a calling, loving anybody else feels like an offence and is almost impossible.

When love becomes a calling, you know, you just know, that this is where your heart belongs.

It’s hard for the uninitiated heart to understand this love, only the chosen ones can grasp it.

Annie Idibia married 2face because he is her God-given mission and only in being with him could she have found fulfillment.
