Late Afrobeat legend's room still the same after 18 years

The picture of the late Afrobeat musician was released today, the third day of Felabration 2015.

Just as the legacy of Fela Kuti's music remains untouched, so also is his bedroom.

The picture of the late Afrobeat musician was released today, the third day of Felabration 2015.

The picture shows the present state of Fela's room in his home in Kalakuta Republic before he died. The room has not changed and is still the same after 18 years.

It's a remarkable to see that such a historic place has been kept in perfect condition.

Leni Sinclair, the woman who took Fela’s most iconic picture has landed in the country for Felabration.

Leni Sinclair (original name Magdalene Arndt) took the black and white picture of Fela doing the power salute at the Orchestra Hall in Detroit, Michigan, in 1986. The picture is arguably Fela’s most famous picture.

Leni Sinclair has taken ‘iconic’ pictures of artistes such as Jimi Hendrix, the MC5, and Iggy Pop to John Coltrane, Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, Sun Ra, John Lennon, and others.

Sandra Izsadore, the renowned black rights activist who greatly influenced Fela, is currently in Nigeria. Watch Pulse TV video for more on the legend.
