‘Actors are always dumped after political campaigns,’ actor laments

The actor, who was born Segun Remi, reveals that the artists have always been neglected, used and dumped after political campaigns.

Popular Yoruba actor, Chief Kanran

As veteran actor, Chief Kanran prepares for a week-long celebration to mark his 50 years acting career, the actor has blamed the Nigerian government for neglecting actors.

The actor, who was born Segun Remi, reveals that the artists have always been neglected, used and dumped after political campaigns.

In his words, ‘The journey to stardom has been rough but we thank God for the past 50 years. All through my 50 years as an actor, I have never regretted my choice of career. However, it makes me sad when I travel and see our contemporaries abroad.’

Speaking further to The Punch, Kanran said, ‘An actor of my caliber should be a billionaire by now but such is not the case in Nigeria. Our government does not appreciate our profession. The only time we are useful to them is during political campaigns or when they want to publicise themselves and that is not right.’
