Caitlyn Jenner speaks on transgender issues in Chicago House

Protesters confronted reality star Caitlyn Jenner after she gave a speech on the issues of Transgender in Chicago on Thursday, November 12.

Jenner was invited to speak to a reported 1,000 people by the Chicago House, which describes itself as the "Midwest’s oldest provider of housing for those impacted by HIV/AIDS and/or LGBTQ marginalization” and the "home to the nation’s most comprehensive social service and support programs for transgender individuals, the TransLife Center."

But when Jenner exited the hotel, she was met by a group of protesters. In a video posted on Facebook on Thursday, the former Olympian is seen intensely talking to a woman holding up a sign. Someone else can be heard yelling about being "insulted" and "violated." In another video, Jenner is told she’s an "insult to trans people" and she's just "an old rich white woman" who knows nothing about poverty and stress.

On Facebook, a page called "#IAintCait: Protest Caitlyn Jenner’s ‘Miss Representation’ Luncheon” explained the issue protesters had with the event: Jenner, coming from a position of wealth and privilege, does not represent the average transgender person who has to deal with a multitude of economic issues that she doesn’t face.

It’s unclear exactly how many people actually showed up, but many held signs criticizing Jenner and the Chicago House.
