In an interview, Burt Reynolds, who was one of the biggest sex symbols of the 1970s admitted that he had hopped from bed to bed, dating beauties from Farrah Fawcett to Goldie Hawn.
Looking back as he releases his autobiography, But Enough About Me, an older, wiser Burt can see why so many people leapt to the wrong conclusion.
“I was surprised a lot of women didn’t say, ‘Have you been tested, because you should be?’” he says.
“I jumped from one to the other and I certainly could have handled those situations better.
I was an a**hole. When all the Aids stuff came out you’re going to get swallowed up by everything.
“I made some stupid mistakes” he says. “And I haven’t been the nicest guy in the world about keeping my mouth shut about women.”
Reynolds judged Charlie Sheen so harshly after he has revealed he’s HIV positive.
“I don’t have any pity for the boy. He’s been in trouble a lot and seems to revel in the women he’s bedded, I didn’t like that at all,” says Burt. “

He lost a lot of weight and, as a result of the rumours, lost a lot of friends, though celebs like Elizabeth Taylor and Clint Eastwood stood by him.
A lot of those friends who turned their backs were a pain in the a** too,” he says. “I also knew some people who had Aids and I had a whole different kind of respect for them after what happened. I tried all I could to help them.”
“I don’t fear dying,” he says. “I talk to God every night.
“I just think of the luck I’ve had. I’d like my epitaph to be, ‘He had a hell of a good time and he was a good friend’.
“The only thing I fear is getting sick and being a bother to people.”
