A look at singer's troubled past

Burna Boy though very talented has had a colourful past filled with controversies.

Tucked in between his heady singles are controversies that paint the singer as more than the regular bad boy artist. Burna Boy can be said to be a creative genius haunted by his darker side.

In November, the police said the talented act was the mastermind behind the attack and robbery of Mr 2Kay at Eko Hotels & Suites.

After a few weeks of ducking from the law, Burna Boy turned himself in on Friday, December 15, 2017. On Monday, December 18, 2017, he was arraigned in court and given a two count charge. Now out on bail, Burna Boy will be back in court on December 29, 2017.

The Mr 2Kay saga is the latest in Burna Boy’s long relationship with controversy. For Damini Ogulu, his dark troubled past started in the United Kingdom in 2010.

Stabbing incident in the UK

According to a report by THE NET on December 2, 2013, Burna Boy stabbed someone to death in London. He was tried as a minor and was sentenced to jail.

Eleven months later he was released on parole for two months with community service on the grounds of good behaviour. According to the exclusive story, Burna travelled back to Nigeria thereby flouting his parole. He subsequently signed to Aristokrat Records.

It must be stated that Burna Boy has denied that he ever stabbed someone to death in the United Kingdom. He claims all report of his crime and incarceration were false.

Threat to kill bloggers

In the same year, Burna Boy threatened to kill bloggers who write wrong things about him. "These bloggers be writing shit thinking its a game until I see yall face to face one-day nd hospitalize or murk u. We gon meet 1day #onsight" he infamously tweeted.

2015 was one of his most controversial years. Within the same 12-month period, Burna Boy posted two pictures of him with a gun on Instagram. This was a week after he renewed his deal with telco giant GLO.

He wrapped up the year with a skirmish with a man in Lekki when his bodyguards allegedly beat him up following an accident. South African rapper, AKA was with Burna Boy when this incident happened late 2015.

The following year would be a less eventful year for the singer. A lady claimed that he impregnated her but the story turned out to be false.

2017 continued with little controversies until the Mr 2Kay scandal which shocked not only the public but his fans as well.

Burna Boy is one of Nigeria's most talented singers in Nigeria of his generation. No one questions his skills but the controversies and drama have robbed him of the accolades he deserves.

If Burna Boy can stay drama free in 2018, he would rule the charts.
