Some students had allegedly damaged school property during a recent students' protest and were required to pay a fine between the sum of N20,000 and N10,000 each.
Parents Enraged After School Imposes Vandalism Fine On Students
Angry parents and guardians of Junior Secondary School III students of the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Zaria have petitioned the Federal Government following the imposition of a vandalism fine on their wards by the school's authorities.
Speaking with journalists yesterday, the parents said it was wrong that the students were all asked to pay for the damages caused by a few culprits who had already been identified.
“They told us that they have identified about 30 students as those who destroyed the college’s property. In my opinion, the fine should be restricted to them. Imposing fine on all JSS III students or dismissing them from the school is unfair”, one of the parents said.
They therefore asked the Federal Ministry of Education to look into the matter.
Meanwhile, the college's principal, Hajiya Fatima Jiddun, declined to make any comment.
