The alleged kidnap of the 21-year-old was captured live on TV and social media users are calling for his immediate release.

Kent, whose LinkedIn profile shows is a music student at Morgan State University, was peacefully addressing a crowd protesting the death of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old black man who died of a spinal-cord injury while in police custody.

He was taken away by officers in the van.

The Independent, UK, quoting Heavy.com, reports that he is credited with organising Baltimore’s local protests against the Ferguson shooting of unarmed teenager Michael Brown.

In an November 2014 interview the Baltimore City Paper, Kent said that “everyone knows me at Morgan already… [for] making sure everything is running peaceful[ly] and everything like that”.

"So, everybody already knows I'm going to do things the right way, so when everybody else and community people and civilians and people who joined and saw that the Morgan students were looking up to it, before you knew it, the whole city was on my back and I was just carrying the whole city.”

After his apparent arrest, tagged a kidnap, Twitter users are now asking the question: using the now viraltag.

There have been several riots in Baltimore since Gray's killing, forcing the enforcement of 10pm curfew.

The National Guard were also called in, the first time since Rev Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated in 1968.
