3 reasons why WAEC withholds SSCE results

The release of West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE results often comes with the announcement of other results being held by WAEC.

Most times, WAEC withhold these results, affected candidates expectedly get disturbed as they are unsure of what would become of their performance in the examination.

In the past, when this happened candidates won’t get to hear anything about it again.

However, with the advent of Twitter, candidates can easily tweet at the Council @waec to ask any question regarding their results.

The presence of the exam body on social media platforms is really helping the candidates to get instant responses to such sundry issues as delay in the release of result.

Why are results withheld?

1. One major reason WAEC withhold results is largely due to examination malpractices. WAEC could withhold candidates results if they are found to have copied from textbooks, used of mobile handsets and prepared answers believed to have been smuggled into the examination hall.

2. In other cases, candidate may have been found copy-scrapping extensively answers in the exam hall or left the examination hall with scripts and attempted to submit the same after the stipulated time.

3. Lastly, WAEC may decide to withhold some candidates’ results if there were errors in their results and are being worked on.

However, once the results have been announced, candidates whose results are withheld would have to wait for the Nigeria Examinations Committee’s (NEC) decision on the result. After the NEC meeting, the withheld results may either be cancelled or released depending on the decision of the committee.
