Only 1,937 candidates pass 2018 WASSCE
Out of 11,307 candidates, less than 2,000 have five credits including Mathematics and English language.
Announcing the result on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, Mr Isaac Adenipekun, the Head of WAEC, Nigeria said only 1,937 candidates out of 11,307 candidates that sat for the examination have credits in five subjects including Mathematics and English.
Adenipekun also explained that results of 1,021 candidates, representing 9.03 percent of the total candidature were withheld due to various reported cases of examination malpractices.
“The cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate committee of the council in due course for consideration. The committee’s decisions will be communicated to the affected candidates,”
While analysing the results, Adenipekun said 11,721 candidates registered for the examination, while 11,307 actually sat for the test.
He added that ''a total 1,937 candidates, representing 17.13 percent, obtained the minimum of credits in five subjects and above, including English Language and Mathematics''
The Head of WAEC in Nigeria also noted that 6,375 candidates obtained credits and above in three subjects, while 4,762 candidates obtained credits and above in four subjects.
Adenipekun further stated that 3,263 candidates obtained credits and above in five subjects, while 2,010 others obtained credits and above in six subjects.
Comparing the results to the previous editions of the exam, Adenipekun said ''it is safe to say that candidates performance is not satisfactory, compared to what obtained in the same diet for private candidates in 2016 and 2017.
