The Vice Chancellor while addressing newsmen on Sunday, January 7 advised cult members in the university to quit, repent or renounce their membership.

Recalling the spate of cultists attacks on innocent students towards the end of 2017, Oye-Bandele said that the university is tired of the terror the cultists unleashed on the students adding that the school management is after the perpetrators and their external collaborators.

He, however, said that subsequent admission of students would be strict as screening would go beyond perusal of paper qualifications.

“Our determination is to leave this university better than we met it by turning out students who will be worthy in learning and character and anyone or group of miscreants trying to constitute clogs on the wheel of our plans will not be spared.

“If parents could toil day and night to ensure their children or wards excelled in their studies and become responsible citizens in future, I wonder why such children should get to school and choose to look the other side.

''It is not our intention to punish those who reconsider their ways and voluntarily renounce membership of such groups because the Bible says God does not want the death of a sinner but for him to repent and change his old ways, ” he said.

VC warns old students to stay away from freshers

Meanwhile, in a bid to curb the spate of cultists attack in EKSU, the Vice Chancellor in November ordered the old students of the institution to stay away from the new ones.

The Vice-Chancellor further instructed the old students not to harbour the new ones in their hostels or assist them in paying their school fees under any pretence.

The instruction came in the heels of a final year student who was allegedly murdered by cultists and then dumped his body by the road side.

The Vice-Chancellor, however, thanked the state governor, Mr Ayo Fayose for signing the bill that prescribed life sentence and a death penalty for cultists in the state, especially in institutions.
