More than 150,000 students have graduated from the University of Jos (UNIJOS), Plateau state, since it was established in October 1975 by the military government of General Murtala Mohammed.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Hayward Mafuyai, revealed this at its combined 27th and 28th convocation which also marked its 40th anniversary.
“At 40 years since its establishment, the university has produced over 150,000 graduates from its regular and part time undergraduate programmes,’’ Mafuyai said.
The Vice Chancellor said the university's successes over the years is due to the university's emphasis on high quality teaching and research.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who was represented at the occasion by the Executive Secretary of National Universities Commission (NUC) Professor Julius Okojie, called on tertiary institutions in the country to help his government fight corruption by introducing moral and leadership courses for students.
Professor Gilbert Onuaguluchi was the first Vice-Chancellor of UNIJOS which took off with 575 student in October 1976.
