UI don asks Nigerians to ostracize corrupt politicians
A Professor of Crop Physiology at the University of Ibadan (UI), Olabode Lucas, has said corrupt leaders should be ostracized and not encouraged because the entire country suffers from the effects of corruption.
Speaking during a book presentation to round off his 70th birthday, the Professor said Nigerians should come together to tackle corruption, instead of the glorification of corrupt leaders which only emboldens them.
“They should be ostracized and not encouraged. Corruption is a cancer and it is gradually destroying our dear country," Lucas said.
"We need concerted efforts by all and sundry to destroy this cancer.”
He noted that the entire country suffers from the effects of corruption, hence the need to a concerted effort towards fighting it.
“Nigeria will continue to wallow in its current parlous state if the present rate of corruption and financial malfeasance continues.
"We should not allow ethnic and other considerations to color our attitude towards those who are making all of us, except themselves, very poor in the midst of plenty."
The don called for the reintroduction of civic education in the curriculum of primary and secondary schools towards the creation of responsible citizens.
gathered that the book presented is titled “Snapshots on Some Nigerian and International Events”.
