Whether you are a fresh graduate or a professional with some years of experience, there are some elements an employer or a hiring manager wants to see in your curriculum vitae.
Regardless of your level of experience or the industry you are in, these five things must not be missing in your CV.
This is a brief paragraph that highlights the most important thing about you. A well-composed summary tells the hiring manager about your skills and the value you'll bring into the company if you're hired.
2. Professional Experience
A fresh graduate might not have a space for this in his CV but other job applicants with at least two years of experience should be able to showcase their work experience and achievement in this section of their credential.
This is the meat of the CV. Employers are quick to check this section out in applicants' CV to know if the applicant is a right candidate. A comprehensive credential should have a skill section which should be placed right after the summary.
However, while you highlight your skills that are relevant to the job you are applying for, make sure you don't overlook your softy skills too. According to the Society for Human Resource Management, ''employers actually care more about soft skills than they do technical abilities like reading comprehension and Mathematics''.
Your education background or history should never be missing in your CV. The hiring manager shouldn't have to search for your academic credential.
Have a section for information about your academic history stating the university or polytechnic you graduate from and the year of graduation. If you graduate with honours, mention it.
5. Contact information
The contact information covering your name, your phone number, home address and email address should be clearly stated at the top of your CV. If applicable, you can also include your Linkedin link, website or blog links.
