Liberia Pastor hopeful after fire totally destroys school, church
A midnight fire has burnt down the New Hope Missionary Church and Global Mission School located on Lynch Street in Monrovia, Liberia, but the leader says "the devil cannot fight God's people."
According to a member of the church and security at the school, nothing could be salvaged from the inferno that started around 2 a.m. on Monday.
"I came outside that morning and saw the fire blazing; it was very terrible; we tried our best to salvage some of our materials out; we even called the Fire Service and they responded but never came with water," Wright said.
But the Senior Pastor and General Overseer of the New Hope Missionary Church, Rev. David G. Roberts, was very hopeful.
"The devil cannot fight God's people," Roberts said.
"We are currently doing the assessment to know the cost of damage the fire had on both the church and school.
He however lamented the damage and appealed to the Christian community, national government, non-government organizations and well-meaning Liberians to assist them.
"The school's entire library including computers with church instruments were damaged as a result of the fire hazard," he added.
Students of the school said they lost all their documents to the fire and called on the government to rescue them.
