18-year-old student dies after falling 8 floors while taking pictures
A student who was taking pictures near a window ledge slipped and fell down eight stories, landing on a passer-by. She later died from her injuries.
Student Pulse gathered that the tragic incident happened around 6:00pm at 1530 Chestnut Street.
She landed on a 44-year-old woman who is still in critical condition.
Reports quoting police sources say the deceased was visiting two male students of the Art Institute of Philadelphia who lived on the eighth floor.
Chief Inspector Scott Small says she might have been taking pictures near a window ledge when she fell.
"She may even have been sitting on the ledge - it's about a two-foot-long ledge - taking some pictures," Small said.
After the accident, the student was rushed to Jefferson Hospital where she died from her injuries.
The woman she landed on is being treated for neck and back pain at Hahnemann University Hospital.
She reportedly suffered a fractured vertebra and had some teeth knocked out.
No foul play is suspected in the girl's death, even as the university’s management has offered their official condolences in a statement issued this morning (Friday).
