A man who was arrested for being in possession of a laptop and other stolen items, Ayodele Oniya, has attempted suicide in his house.
Man caught selling AAUA student's laptop stabs self in failed suicide attempt
Ayodele Oniya committed suicide after he was accused of selling a stolen laptop belonging to a student. Now the police will charge him for both theft and attempted suicide.
Punchreports that Oniya was nabbed while trying to sell a laptop he allegedly stole from the car of an Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba (AAUA) student, Fadipe Oludare, about three weeks ago.
According to the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Wole Ogodo, Oniya attempted to take his life with a table knife when policemen took him to his house to search for stolen items.
While the other property were being recovered from his house, the suspect suddenly picked a table knife and stabbed himself on the chest in a bid to terminate his life to avoid prosecution, but the policemen with him saved the situation.
“He was immediately rushed to a hospital."
The suspect may have managed to escape death, but his failed suicide attempt has increased his troubles.
Ogodo revealed that the suspected will now be prosecuted for theft, since stolen items were discovered in his house, as well as attempted suicide.
"He is going be charged for stealing and attempting to commit suicide,” Ogodo said.
Oniya is presently recuperating in the hospital.
