Students appeal to government over ASUU and COEASU strike

NANS has earlier issued a 7-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to meet ASUU demands.

The plea according to the Daily Independent was contained in a statement signed by the National Public Relations Officer, Mr Bestman Okereafor, on  in Enugu.

Okereafor in the statement urged the FG to meet the demands of the striking lecturers in the best interest of Nigerian students.

“NANS is finally calling on the Federal Government to look at means of resolving its differences with ASUU and COEASU members.

“We appeal that government go into resolving the issue urgently in the best interest of all Nigerian students.

“This should be done without further delay so that the ongoing strike will not affect the academic calendar of the institutions,” he said

Recall that NANS has earlier issued a 7-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to meet the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

In a telephone interview with Pulse on Wednesday, November 4, 2018, the President of the students' body, Denilson Bamidele Akpan said government's failure to meet the previous agreement between them and ASUU prompted the union to go on strike again.

On Sunday, November 4, 2018, ASUU President, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi following the union's NEC meeting at the Federal University of Technology, Akure declared an indefinite nationwide strike.
