Jigawa Gov attacked for 'using' 45-year-old 'illegal' NANS president against GEJ

A political war is on course following accusations by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) that the Governor of Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, is supporting a 45-year-old non-student, Tijjani Usman, who claims he is the association's President.

According to Comrade Ali Wali, the duly elected President of NANS, Lamido's support for the 'illegal' President has a political undertone.

Wali told the Governor was using Usman as a weapon against President Goodluck Jonathan's Transformation Agenda.

He said the 45-year-old 'illegal' president is not a registered student of any tertiary institution and is only being used to cause division among students.

“Tijjani Usman is a 45-year-old non-student who is not a registered student of any tertiary institution in Nigeria. NANS has discovered that Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido and his cohorts are sponsoring him to cause division among Nigerian students, especially students from the North."

Wali also accused Lamido of using religious sentiments to foment trouble and called on students to 'rise up against' him.

“They are using religion and tribe to cause crisis in the students union. As enlightened youths of Nigeria, we will not fold our arms and allow that to happen.

"They will not succeed in their evil plan; not while we are still at helm of the students body.

“As NANS President, I call on all our students across the country to rise up against the likes of Governor Lamido, who have obviously declared themselves enemies of the state, and do not want the development and progress of our dear country.

"We will remain united against such forces of destruction."

The student leader also revealed that NANS would organize 10-million-man march in support of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)'s fight against corruption, while calling on the body to investigate the alleged money laundering charges leveled against two of Lamido's sons.
