April Courtney was sentenced on Tuesday after pleading guilty to failing to report the alleged child sexual assault of a student at Gavin South Middle School in Ingleside.

Courtney's fellow teacher, Michael Vucic had fled to Bosnia after assaulting a 13-year-old student but was captured last October and extradited to face his crime.

After his capture, Vucic said he told Courtney about his crime.

Lake County Associate Judge Helen Rozenberg said his failure to report the crime was outrageous.

"The fact that he made a statement that he had sex with a child and nothing was done is abhorrent," the Judge said.

"... I found Ms. Courtney's behaviour outrageous and callous and lead to substantial suffering by a child."

Two other former teachers, Michael Lanners and John Keehan, of Elgin, have also been charged with failing to report Vucic's alleged crimes and await trial.
