90% Of Kwara Schools Do Not Have A Library — Lawmaker

Lawmakers in Kwara state have raised alarm over the absence of libraries in schools across the state, a situation which they say is hampering learning and teaching

More than 90 per cent of schools in Kwara state do not have a libraries for their students.

This much was revealed by the the Deputy Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Professor Gana Yisa.

Yisa added that where libraries exist, they are ill equipped.

“Government and Ministry of Education have to give more attention to the matter, by making library compulsory for all schools because teaching needs to be encouraged in order to improve the standard of education," Yisa said.

He observed that the absence of libraries has made learning and teaching more difficult for both teachers and students.

The House urged the state government to renovate existing libraries and build new ones, after debating a motion by the Chairman House Committee on Education and Human Capital Development, Nimota Ibrahim, on repositioning, revitalising and resuscitating libraries in the state.
