14 students arrested for allegedly destroying school property during protest
14 students have been arrested on the suspicion that they destroyed properties of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic.
The students, 13 of whom are male and one female were arrested by Police in Ondo State and remanded in prison
The suspected students who were later paraded at the Chief Magistrate Court -II sitting at the GRA in the state were charged with a three-count charge of conspiracy, felony to wit stealing and malicious damage.
The Police gave the 14 students' names as; Lukman Arowolo 21, Iyanuoluwa Gift 21, Olayinka Oyewole 21, Aladejebi Temitope 35, Oluwadare Gbenga 26, Japhet Samuel 21, Ayeni Samuel 24, Lawrence Monday 2 4,Titus Felix 22, Emmanuel Segun 23, Ayeni Temitope 21, Ayeni Trust 23, Olayinka Olalekan 17, and Ayomide Opeyemi 21.
During the protest, the students were said to have stormed Akure/Benin expressway, preventing vehicular movement for over an hour.
The protesting students also reportedly invaded the institution's ICT centre, stole and destroyed properties worth millions of Naira.
Management's decision on school fees is the cause of the protest
Recall that the students' protest broke out following the Polytechnic's management decision to prevent students who are yet to pay their school fees from writing their second-semester examination.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Samuel Ojo and the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, Rafiu Ijawoye in the school have announced the indefinite closure of the institution
