Polytechnic lecturers begin nationwide strike
The lecturers begin the nationwide strike today because the FG refuses to fulfil agreement it had with their union.
The union's National President, Usman Dutse said the union had a meeting with the Ministry of Labour on October 16 to resolve the issues but the ministry has not responded.
“We were told by the federal ministry of labour that a memorandum of understanding will be given, but we’ve not gotten one till date and that is why our members say there is no seriousness on the side of the government.”
Dutse also said another meeting has been scheduled with the government for Wednesday, November 15.
Meanwhile, academic activities will be paralysed in all Polytechnics across the country.
He said, ''All academic activities will be suspended during the strike.
“Our union is constrained to lament that our sector is on the verge of collapse and needs all the emergency attention it urgently deserves.”
The Union's strike, however, may ground academic activities in all government controlled educational institutions in the country to a halt if the Academic Staff Union of the Universities also begins its nationwide strike as threatened in November.
