A five-year-old boy from Cornwall, UK, has been sued and billed £15.95 (about N4600) for missing his friend's birthday party.
Woman 'sues' 5-year-old boy, father for missing friend's birthday party
5-year-old Alex Nash and his parents will have to go and explain in court why their son missed a birthday party he accepted invitation to. The birthday boy's mother has sued them and wants about N5,000 for her expenses.
BBC reports that Alex Nash’s parents found an invoice of £15.95, from his school friend’s mother Julie Lawrence, in his school bag last week.
Lawrence claims that Alex's failure to attend the party, held at a dry ski slope in Plymouth, Devon, cost her money which she expects the boy (or his parents) to refund.
She said she expected to be informed if the boy was unable to attend, having added contact details to the invitation.
"All details were on the party invite. They had every detail needed to contact me," Ms Lawrence said in a short statement.
gathered that the woman intends to drag Alex and his father to a small claims court for refusing to pay the 'no-show' bill.
But Alex's father, Derek Nash, said while he understands that Ms Lawrence is upset about the money she lost, he is not happy with the way she approached him for the money.
"I can understand that she's upset about losing money. The money isn't the issue, it's the way she went about trying to get the money from me," he said.
"She didn't treat me like a human being, she treated me like a child and that I should do what she says."
Mr Nash explained that his son missed the birthday party because he had to spent time with his grandparents.
He said the invoice she sent was very official "with full official details and even her bank details on it" adding that they had no contact information for the woman.
