Students should generate ideas to solve Nigeria's problems — APC Chieftain
Nigerian students have been urged to work hard towards finding solutions to the problems of the country as President Muhamadu Buhari builds a new nation.
A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, said this when he hosted the leadership of the Association of Students in Northern Nigeria at his Abuja residence last weekend.
Onu, a former governor of the old Abia State, said students must play a major role as the Buhari-led administration ushers in a unified, modern and prosperous nation that all Nigerians would be proud of.
"The presidency of Buhari is determined to build a modern nation for us, a nation that all of us as Nigerians would be proud of and other people outside Nigeria and other nations would be proud of and respect us," Onu said.
"You should find ways to ensure that this administration succeeds.
"As students you have to work very hard and generate the ideas that would help to solve the problems in the society."
The statesman noted that universities have a major role because "most great nations have always had great universities.”
"Our universities must be centers of learning; they must generate ideas that would galvanize growth in the country and this is something that our students would have to ensure that our nation must surely be the giant that she is supposed to be," he added.
Leader of the group, Michel Omoba, called Onu a role model to up-coming politicians and beacon of hope for the Nigerian youths.
Onu graduated with First Class Honours in Chemical Engineering from the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
