NASU calls off strike, academic activities begin
Odewumi therefore assured that academic activities would begin immediately. He said that the school management had pledged to pay the union palliatives and rather than the hazard allowance.
The Chairman of the union, Mr Wole Odewumi, who made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Ile-Ife, said that university had accepted to pay a substantial part of the allowances demanded by the union.
"The management agreed to pay us a substantial amount but did not state the actual amount to be paid," he said.
According to him, NASU decided to suspend the demonstration due to the intervention of some eminent people such as Oba Okunade Sijuwade, the Ooni of Ife.
NASU chairman said that though the union had resolved to suspend the strike, it had advised its members to rest on Thursday and resume duty fully on Friday.
Mr Abiodun Olanrewaju, the OAU Public Relations Officer confirmed that NASU had called off the strike, saying that academic activities would commence fully on campus. NAN recalls that NASU embarked on the three weeks strike over unpaid hazard allowances
