Professor Isaac Asuzu, Vice Chancellor of FUOYE has been accused of corruption by his staff. But the VC says he is only acting according to the law as against the illegal demands of his aggrieved staff.

The Vice Chancellor of Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Isaac Asuzu, has said his actions, described as corrupt and highhanded by aggrieved staff, are only geared towards protecting his name and that of the institution.

Some staff of the institution has accused Asuzu of corruption and staged protests against him.

But, while addressing journalists in Ado Ekiti, the VC said the allegation are false, adding that he is only being accused for not allowing fraudulent activities to continue.

"The issue here is that the staff are making demands that contravene the statutory regulations of the Federal Government and the management is asking them to comply with those regulations,"Asuzu said.

The VC said that he acted according to the provisions of the law and to protect his name.

"Whatever I have done was done in accordance with the law."

"I cannot afford to be sent to jail because I want to protect their interest."

He added that the institution is not in a financial position to meet some of the staff demands, especially with the host state not contributing enough.

"We don't have enough money to be paying all these demands and they have to show understanding", he said.

Asuzu also announced the management's decision to reduce tuition fee from N66, 500 to N35, 000, to make lives better for students.
