Thousands of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members have been discharged all over the country without the usual fanfare, especially the passing out parade.
NYSC Discharges Members In Low-Key Events
The National Youth Service Corps today discharged graduating members across the country without the usual fanfare.
Student Pulse gathered that graduating corp members were asked to collect their discharge certificates at designated centres across the country.
Discharged certificates are usually handed out at passing out parades.
"There are several designated centres across the state where we have asked these fresh graduates to pick up their discharge certificates and leave for their various destinations,” the Head, Media and Press Relations of the Lagos State NYSC, Mrs. Belinda Faniyi, told Premium Times.
Faniyi did not give a reason for the nationwide cancellation of the passing out ceremonies.
“I do not have any other information as regards the reason the fanfare was cancelled this year. That’s just the order we have been asked to follow all over the country,” she said.
Passing out parades are usually looked forwards to, because it gives corp members another opportunity to meet up with those they met during the orientation camp.
Family and friends are often present at the parades with photographers making brisk business of preserving the day in pictures.
The corp members will certainly be disappointed.
