BIDAPOLY student discover Coliform bacteria in Bida communities’ drinking water
Members of some Niger communities Etsu-Yisa are at risk after the harmful Coliform bacteria was fpound in their drinking water boreholes by a student researcher from BIDAPOLY.
The discovery, made while an unnamed student was conducting a research work on boreholes in Etsu-Yisa area of Bida town, Niger State, means that some of the water sources are unfit for human consumption.
Samples were taken from eight (8) boreholes for the research which the lecturer in charge of it, Mohammed Aminu King, said was inspired by recent events in the communities around Bida Area Council.
“The results from the laboratory analysis carried out for isolation and identification of coliform bacteria in drinking water (borehole) consumed in Etsu-Yisa area of Bida town indicated that some water are fit for consumption and domestic use while some are unfit for human consumption and domestic activities," King said.
"Caution should be employed in using this water."
The lecturer advised that residents of the area should process their water well before consumption.
He recommended powdered Moringa seeds for purification of water sourced from the borehole before consumption.
