University to re-issue ASUU chairman’s PhD certificate

The Governing Council of the Lagos State University has directed the institution’s management to re-issue the withdrawn PhD Certificate of Adekunle Idris, Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities, LASU chapter.

Akin Lewis, LASU registrar, has said that this decision made by the governing council must be adhered to.

“The Governing Council had deliberated and taught it wise to re-issue the certificate, and as such gave a directive, so our responsibility is to implement the directive,” he said.

Adekunle Idris, while speaking with NAN, confirmed this directive but stated that he is yet to receive the re-issued certificate.

The Senate of the institution under the former Vice- Chancellor, John Obafunwa, had withdrawn 19 PhD certificates over what it described as error in the titles of the certificates issued.

The 19 certificates included those of Mr. Idris‎ and Adeoye Yusuf, another ASUU leader.

Seventeen out of the 19 certificates withdrawn were later re-issued ‎to the affected persons after clarification, while those of Messrs Idris and Yusuf were withheld.

The ASUU Lagos Zone, however, accused LASU management of using the withdrawn certificates to witch-hunt some of its members over the crisis rocking the institution.
