The statement said since the affected academic staff members had contravened the provisions of the Code of Conduct for Staff; they would remain suspended until further notice.

Authorities of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, on Wednesday suspended six lecturers of the institution over alleged acts of gross misconduct.

A statement by the institution’s Director of Public Relations, Dr Isiaka Aliagan, said the suspension followed a report that the lecturers harassed the Chief Security Officer (CSO), of the university while performing his lawful duty.

The statement said that the gross misconduct took place on Oct. 27 on the campus at Malete.

It said the lecturers held a meeting in the Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) Open Theatre of the institution without permission and harassed the official when ordered to vacate the place.

According to the statement, using the theatre without permission and harassing an officer of the university while performing his lawful duty were considered by management to be acts of gross misconduct.

It said the action of the lecturers was not only inimical to the integrity of the university, but also undermined lawful authority.

It directed the affected staff members, who had been served letters of suspension, to hand over all university property in their possession to the Heads of their Departments

The statement said the lecturers had also been barred from access to the university campus, especially academic areas.
