State government to rehabilitate three schools with N2.3b

Niger state government has commenced rehabilitation of three secondary schools in the state.

The Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Education, Shuaibu Adamu made the disclosure on Thursday, November 10,  during the post-executive council meeting press briefing at the Government House, Minna.

Punch reports that Adamu, who represented his commissioner at the briefing, disclosed that the new projects include the conversion of Baro Government Secondary School to a boarding school at the cost of N382.2m and the rehabilitation of Tegina Secondary School at the cost of N290m.

He went on to add that the rehabilitation of the Muazu Ibrahim Commercial Secondary School in Kontogora would cost an estimated N361.4m.

The Permanent Secretary said that the  reconstruction of six other selected science schools under the government’s School Development Programme inaugurated about six months ago, has reached an appreciable level.

Adamu adds that the government released about N1.7bn counterpart matching funds to the Universal Basic Education to ensure that the state begins renovation works in 400 primary schools as soon as  the Federal Government released its funds to the scheme.

According to him, the government has also completed arrangements to restart three teacher training colleges in the three senatorial zones of the state which will be aimed at improving the standard of education in the state.

He said that the Women Teachers’ College in Minna will be restored and repositioned for the production of qualified teachers which will, in turn, lead to the improvement of learning and teaching in public schools.
