The Anambra Government said its partnership with the The Kingdom of Thailand would reinvigorate the education sector in the state.
Government partners Thailand on education
“The governor is interested in education, especially vocational and technical education, hence the extensive attention in the area,” Omenugha said.
Governor Willie Obiano said this when he received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand, Mr Chailert Limsomboon, at Government House, Awka on Friday.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Professor Joe Asike, Obiano described the visit as the beginning of greater business relations and partnerships between the state and the Kingdom of Thailand.
He said the ambassador’s visit was one of the proceeds of the Thai-Anambra Business Summit held earlier in the year when an enlarged Thai delegation visited the state.
He commended the Ambassador-led delegation for their interest in the Anambra education sector.
The governor assured them of his administration’s commitment to the actualisation of their programme and expressed the hope that the partnership would open up more opportunities for the people of the state and the partners.
Limsomboon said that they were in Anambra to seek further areas of cooperation in education.
He said that their interest was high in African community initiative on education and expressed optimism that the discussions and deliberations would be fruitful and of immense benefit to both partners.
The Commissioner for Education, Professor Kate Omenugha, said that one of the ideas behind the visit was to ensure that “we give our children education that which is globally competitive”.
She said that the ministry was working hard to ensure that Anambra children were given the best form of education at all times.
She, however, regretted that technical colleges in the state were yet to attain the expected standard.
Omenugha recalled that collaborations like the recent trip of select Anambra teachers to Singapore to train in technical subjects areas were geared toward resuscitating technical education in the state.
The commissioner expressed high hopes that ongoing efforts would improve the standard of technical education in the state.
