Student sentenced to house arrest, ordered to write apology letter, essay… after threat to 'shoot up' school

A judge has placed a high school student on house arrest with an electronic monitoring device fitted to his body and ordered him to write an apology letter and essay after he caused panic with his threat to shoot up his school was reported.

Mason High School student who caused panic at the school after threatening to shoot up the school has been sentenced after pleading guilty to the charges.

The unnamed student had sent a group chat to students saying he planned to “shoot up the school," a second-degree felony according according to Warren County Prosecutor David P. Fornshell.

Officials were tipped off, leading to the student's arrest.

After pleading guilty Friday to inducing panic on school grounds, Warren County Juvenile Court Judge Joseph Kirby, placed him on probation and ordered him to be put on house arrest with an electronic monitoring device fitted to his body.

The judge also ordered the student to; complete an outpatient psychological therapy and anger management courses; write a formal letter of apology to Mason City Schools; and write an essay for Kirby [the Judge].

Student Pulse gathered that Mason City Schools is still investigating the incident and may hand down its own punishment.
