Philanthropist Gives N20,000 To 300 Abia Students
300 undergraduates have been awarded scholarships by a Philanthropist in Abia
Ufomba said the scheme was part of his contribution to human resource development, promote education and help the students acquire quality education.
“Each of the beneficiaries will be getting twenty thousand naira. Last year, we gave thirty thousand naira to 200 beneficiaries," Ufomba said.
“But under the 2014 edition, we have 250 beneficiaries and I have asked them to draw up supplementary list to make sure that every person who is in attendance today but whose name is not in the list will be accommodated, so that they do not completely lose out.”
Calling for free education, the philanthropist said his foundation started assisting indigent students back in 2007.
“You cannot shut your eyes to the level of poverty that is prevalent in the society of today, so a lot of factors could motivate any right thinking person to help the less privileged”.
Student Pulse gathered that the beneficiaries study in different tertiary institution in Nigeria.
Ufomba is a former All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship candidate in the 2011 governorship election.
