Three students of the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic sustained various degrees of injuries on Friday during a protest over the 12-year-old ban on unionism in the institution.

Three students were injured as the battle for the return of students unionism heats up at the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic
Student Pulse gathered that 37 students’ leaders, under the umbrella of the Joint Executive Council of Student Associations on Campus Association (JECAC) had after a September 9th meeting issued a joint communique demanding that the management allow Students Union elections to hold.
“It is the constitutional right of every Nigerian student to vote and be voted for as contained in the solidarity constitution of the Students Union of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic
“The continuous denial of our right is capable of causing the eruption of major student’s unrest,” the communique read.
It was reported that the management's refused to allow students Union activities prompted the protest which brought activities to a standstill in the institution, Tribune reports.
