Fashola Reversed LASU Fees Because Of 'Useless' PDP — Lagos APC

Rumors that Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola's decision to reverse the hike of tuition in the the state owned Lagos State University (LASU) is a political move forced by the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos state may not be unfounded.

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a statement issued on Thursday has said the tuition fees reversal was done because of the state PDP which was playing politics with the situation.

In the statement, signed by Lagos APC Publicity Secretary, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, it was a “a hard decision to reverse the fees in the interest of the state’s 25 million” residents and indigenes.

“Lagos State Government reversed a robust decision meant to facilitate, and speed up the building of a world class university that befits the status of Lagos so that villains will not turn out to be heroes overnight," Igbokwe said.

"“PDP Lagos thinks they have found something tangible to help them sell a useless product called PDP in Lagos, but they have found nothing as the rug has been removed from under their feet."

Igbokwe said the PDP "steal a large chunk" of Nigeria's oil revenue, adding that “Nigerians are yet to know the truth about the missing 20 billion US dollars they kept aside for 2015 elections.”

Fashola had shocked many when he ordered the institution's management to revert to the old fees at its 19th Convocation.

A hostile crowd of protesters made up of leaders of the Lagos State University Students’ Union (LASUSU), the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and other students had gathered to further their prolonged protest.
