NSFDW Season 2: Fast Rising Designer 'Makani Couture'

The much talked-about Season 2 of the Nigerian Student Fashion and Design Week (NSFDW) is only a few weeks away and new names in the fashion industry are set to showcase their creations.

With over 48 student/aspiring designers and 30 exhibitors from across Nigeria expected at the event, fashion enthusiasts wait to be treated to a glimpse of the future of Nigerian fashion.

Stephanie is a graduate of Madonna and the CEO of Makani Couture. She has been in the fashion industry for two-and-a half years.

“Fashion has always been something I wanted to do way back from high school.  I thought to myself why have a boutique full of peoples designs when I can design my collections and stock, this urge gave birth to Makani couture,” she told Student Pulse.

Stephanie was present at the Season 1 of the Nigerian Student Fashion And Design Week decided to showcase ‘THE DARINGDIVA’ collection at NSFDW 2014 at the 2nd edition.

“The collection speaks volume about how a woman should embrace her curves no matter her size.”

“Showcasing at NSFDW is all about creating awareness for my brand, reaching out to the student market as and also showcasing the uniqueness of my brand,” Stephanie says.

Her brand Makani Couture “caters for the fashion need of every fashion forward woman.”

Power and the daunting fashion market are her greatest challenges.

“It hasn't been easy one bit, the bigger the dreams for your brand the bigger the challenges.”

NSFDW organisers say the yearly showcase “aims to discover new talent and give opportunities to those that would not normally be able to afford to participate at the major Nigerian Fashion Weeks.”

The 2014 edition will hold at the University of Lagos from Thursday 5th to Friday 6th of June.
