Liberian youth beg government to reopen schools

Students in Liberia have been kept at home since the Ebola Virus Disease ripped through their country. They are now begging the government to reopen their schools.

A non-governmental youth body in Liberia, the Potential Youth for Education and Societal Empowerment of Logan Town, (PYESE), has urged the government to reopen schools as cases of the Ebola Virus disease continues its decline.

In a statement signed by its President, Prince Powo, the body said the re-opening of schools has become a matter of urgency because students in the Ebola ravaged country have suffered significant setback.

Pointing to the commencement of political activities in the country, Powo said appropriate measures have been put in place.

"Today we are happy that Senatorial Elections can go on and therefore we are convinced that academic activities can also resume," he said.

PYESE said students across the country have shown their eagerness to resume academic activities.

Liberia's Ministry of Education however says it cannot be sure of when the Ebola disease will be eradicated, a condition that is necessary for the reopening of schools.
