Wike, a former Supervising Minister of Education, said this at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he dedicated his campaign to God.
I'm a pastor's son, did not join cults as UNIPORT student — Wike
A governorship aspirant in Rivers State running under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Nyesom Wike, has said he did not participate in cultism while he was a student.
He said he was a responsible student during his time as a Political Science student at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), the University of Science and Technology (UST) and the Nigerian Law School.
"I attended the University of Port Harcourt, where I read Political Science. I went to the University of Science and Technology, where I read Law and later, the Nigerian Law School. From the University of Port Harcourt to the University of Science and Technology, I never belonged to any secret cult in the universities," Wike was quoted as saying by Vanguard.
“I want to challenge anybody who will even say that I was once invited, but I refused. I have never been invited and this is because they knew I would not come."
He denounced membership of any secret society, adding that he has always been a good Christian being the son of a pastor.
"We don’t need to bring television to people and start rolling on the ground for people to know that we are good Christians.
"All of you know that my father is a pastor.
"I am sitting here today saying that I am a child of God."
The politician urged members of the church to pray against the emergence of a cultist as the next governor of the state.
