FUTO Final Year Student's Life On The Line .... N2m Needed

A female final year student of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Chisom Duruokpo is critically but cannot get medical help as the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) nationwide strike continues.

Chisom, who studies Agricultural Economics at FUTO needs urgent medical help after suffering complications following an appendicitis operation at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) in 2013.

According to an All Africa, she is suffering from an abdominal inflammation which doctors assured could be corrected through surgery.

"There is a large central complex mass displacing the viscera postero-laterally. The mass measures 380.18cm, comprising multiple nodules, cystic and necrotic tissue.

"There is also a gross enlargement of the ovaries by a soft tissue mass. The liver is of normal span and shows a normal homogeneous echogenicity. No focal lesion is seen within it.

The porta hepatis, veins are all normal. Both kidneys are of normal size, shape, colour and contour. No calyceal dilatation or calculus is seen in either kidney.

"The gall bladder, pancreas and spleen are also normal," a part of the medical report quoted read.

But there are no doctors.

To make matters worse, her parent cannot afford the N2 being demanded.

Her father, Mr. Duruokpo Ebere Paul, says his only income comes from operating a commercial tricycle.

"There is no way we can raise such amount of money," he said.
