Prof. Aderemi Aaron-Anthony Atayero has been appointed as the fourth substantive vice-chancellor of the institution.
This development was confirmed by Secretary of the university’s apex governing body, the Board of Regents, Pastor Chioma Okwuanyi on Friday, July 15 on behalf of the board chairman and chancellor, Dr. David Oyedepo.
Prof. Atayero replaced Prof. Charles Ayo, whose tenure elapsed last month.
The board, while disclosing on how it arrived at its choice, said that it limited its choices to candidates from the university to ensure continuity.
“Somebody who has been in the system who knows where Prof. Ayo stopped, and start building from that foundation,” the secretary to the Board of Regents explained.
Prof. Atayero, in his acceptance speech, thanked the Board of Regents for the confidence reposed in him to carry the mantle of leadership of the institution from where Prof. Ayo stopped.
Atayero, a professor of Communication Engineering at Covenant University, who was the pioneer Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) of the institution, had also served as coordinator, School of Engineering, and twice as Head of Department of Electrical and Information Engineering.
He joined the faculty of Covenant University as a pioneer faculty in 2002.
