SSANU urges Buhari probe OBJ, others, not only GEJ
Nigerian university staff have urged President Muhammadu Buhari to probe all the past democratic regimes from 1999, instead of focusing on former President Goodluck Jonathan alone.
The National President of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Comrade Samson Ugwoke, said Buhari's anti-corruption campaign should look beyond the tenure of Jonathan so that all looted funds can be recovered.
Addressing the National Executive Council meeting/Pre-National Delegate Conference in Jos, Ugwoke said SSANU is fully behind the anti-corruption drive.
“They use Nigerian money to grow and improve the economy of other countries, leaving us in poverty. SSANU supports the fight against corruption but with a caveat, Mr. President should pursue whoever has stolen our money to return it to our coffers," Ugwoke said.
He added however that the bid to retrieve stolen funds should not be selective nor limited to the immediate past regime.
“The probe of the looters should not be selective, it should be total, that is the stand of SSANU," he added.
"It should be total and be extended to 1999, so that those who have killed this country since 1999 should be brought to book.”
If SSANU's call is heeded, then the tenure of former President Olusegun Obansanjo, will be under scrutiny too.
