Students should not be admitted to study double courses — NCCE
Admitting students to study double courses at Colleges of Education (COE) should be stopped because it creates an employment problem.
According to the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Monday Joshua, securing employment becomes an issue for such students upon graduation, because there are other full graduates in their chosen fields.
“When those people graduate, where are they going to work?" he asked
"Already, the environment is saturated with graduate teachers in those subjects, so where will they teach?"
Joshua also noted that the NCCE would enforce regulation on colleges of education to supervise provosts.
“I have planned to remind the provosts that the colleges are under the supervision of the NCCE.
"The supervisor is not going to take away their jobs, but the supervisor will supervise.”
The Executive Secretary said the body is aware that colleges are also having their own challenges, especially during the regime of insufficient funding", but they "have to sit down and address" the issues raised.
NCCE was established in 1989 for the supervision of higher education.
